I'm back onlist at last. Nice to be back; challenging as always to make sense of what decisions are attempting to be made. :) First I shall give my 2 cents on the pre-show thing. In my opinion, "Somethin' Stupid" is too sweet and gentle for an audience warmup - despite how delightful it would be to see young William and young Allen in a love duet. "20th Century Boy" is totally appropriate in theme, but... how much of the audience would know it and be able to sing along? Has *everybody* seen "Velvet Goldmine"? "Fat Bottomed Girls" is a great rockin' crowd-pleaser, but the subject matter is only very loosely Rocky-themed. "Minny the Moocher" is a damn good warm-up, known by many people, and would also be a rather touching tribute to the loss of Blues. I rather like the "Hey Big Spender" idea, particularly if we got to share it - everyone getting a go at a few lyrics, "Creature of the Night"-style. "Like a Virgin" and "Cabaret" could be an awful lot of fun - but only with a bit of choreography. "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Will Rock You" are still options in my book. They've worked fine before. But we've discussed this for long enough, and Adrian's idea of a poll spurred me into action. So: here is a checkbox-style poll for us to decide what to do for pre-show. It's a bit of an experiment, not sure how well it would work, but here goes... On your marks - get set - VOTE!! http://www.misterpoll.com/688319676.html And now, a question of my own: am I playing Magenta? Am I playing *all* of it? (Naturally, I'd love to, but if there's someone else who's also under the impression they're getting a go at the role this month, raise your hand now.) Thank you, all. -Zilla- _________________________________________________________________ Hot chart ringtones and polyphonics. Nick LOVES Buffy BIG TIME ... so he'd be all for it, and apparently I look like Spike pretty well, so ... yeah. I dunno if I can send attachments with this or not, but if I can, I'll send you a pic of me as Spike. There was a link a friend sent me ages ago with the ENTIRE Rocky script rewritten with Buffy characters ... that would be an AWESOME show to do sometime. I think she got it from one of you guys? If it's possible, I'd like to do some character this time, or next time. I know none of you have seen me act or anything, but as I said, I've been in a production of RH, and we got told that there were some ppl from Melbourne in the audience on our final night, and they said that our performance was one of the best that they'd seen ... anyhow, no harm in asking, right? Nick also has a LOT of Buffy sound files on the computer, so if you do a Buffy theme, we can burn some of them for you. We also have Buffy clips that are to the tune of other songs, like Bring Me To Life - Evanescence, Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life - Monty Python, etc ----- Original Message ----- From: "Loki Carbis" To: Sent: Thursday, July 24, 2003 1:12 PM Subject: Re: [Rocky]Hello? 1. I have been thinking... why dont we do a properly choreographed number at the start... then a silly one for the virgins...I dont mean to blow my own trumpet... but I would like the chance to sing at the start...with a few people... coz I had professional training for 6 years...and I havent sung since May this year...

Is the Crim (Jennie) doing a Buffy thing, or is it to be widespread? Louise and I were talking about doing me up as the Hulk for the Rocky bit...adding the MtM bit to pay respect to Blues means that we're incorporating a fair number of different movies, so I can't see the whole cast being Buffyish. Perhaps if Jennie is doing a Buffy thing we could have a different trannie come on as a vampire for each Crim monologue and get killed (except for one, who escapes, maybe, or even kills her after the final monologue). To the newbie who just posted a couple of times...we need you to help us corral the audience when they enter, but there are a multitude of things you can do during the show, such as running the message (for one example). I have fangs and could do a Vampire. We could do Frank dressed as Buffy and then killed at the end by Riff dressed as a Vampire. I think we should do a Cabaret number, but it must be choreographed properly and practiced. Big Spender is more likely to be known by the audience. I have trained singing voice, but I think that quite a few of us can sing. I think that we do either a opening song or the virgin games and not both because it drags on to long and becomes boring for the audience. On another note I have been asked to be in a promotional photograph and organise any other cast members who wish to, for Mx magazine to promote Rocky. The photo session can only take place during this week and during the day. Any cast members who are available during the week and would like to participate please give me a call on 9888 7548 or 0411 135 146. Perhaps Big Spender might be more known to the older audience members, but not to the younger members. To be perfectly honest, I don't know all the words myself. If we do do a cabaret number, you WILL be cutting off the audience members as far as singing along - not that they usually do anyway... (this is a pet peeve of mine - in mid song I'll encourage them to sing along, and I don't hear a peep. I'll give them one thing though, at least they usually get into it kinetically.. anyway..) but I hope you see my point. I love Cabaret. But I'd like to do Burt Bacharach, which is just as unknown. Well, a little, anyway. I think we should save this argument for October, anyway. On the MX front, tell me a time and a place that isn't Tuesday and I'll be there. OK...I'm happy to do the vampire/slayer/crim thing...it sounds like it could be quite hilarious...I just have a question... when you say helping out by "running the message" what do you mean?
JESS> what day would you want us for foto shoot?

OKI DOKI THEN... I'm still trying to work out who a few of you are
Allan...do you play Riff???
Will...what are you gonna do this time? u gonna play a trannie?
can I also ask what other gags we would like to do...so I can arrange for props/cozzies etc if they're needed...

I also came up with another idea...why dont we stick with the cast as it is (meaning no buffy theme etc>EXCEPT the crim scene) otherwise...it becomes an 'in-joke' and we dont wanna insult our audience...the movie does that enough on its own... I happen to know that last time, there was a young lad...of approximately 12 years old...staring at those breasts that kept making their repeated guest appearance... all his father wanted to do was crawl under the seat! I dont think they'll be back!!!!

ANOTHER thing... I invented a new call...I dont know if many of you heard it...or if you have heard it before... in "over at frankenstein place" where the line goes "in the darkness of everybody's life" we say "in the darkness between janet's thighs"... we also need to track down the disco ball people! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

thats enough for now... ciao folks

For Ralph and Betty we could have Faith and Principal Wood. ... They shagged, they better get married :P Some other ideas I had were that some of the trannies (myself included) as vamps. And have one start the buffy theme off (other than maybe having theme song played before the movie) one of the vamp-trannies could kill the usherette at the start, then chased off stage by another trannie as a Slayerette and that same vamp get killed by Willow in the end during the Criminologist final monologue. - Show's how Will became strong through out the seasons of Buffy. But that would mean whoever plays Magenta (sorry not good with names) would have to play the usherette as normal then change into Dru before the Time Warp. - must have blindfolded doll called miss eadie. Anyways, tell me what u fink of my ideas. .. I might miss cues and stuff when it comes to Rocky, but with Buffy I know almost as much as the great Joss Whedon himself. I may be of service. Maybe if everyone just posted here what roles they'd like to play, and what roles we have played, we could all get on the same page here? If nothing else, having it all out in the open is likely to help prevent a certain amount of politics - and that can only be a good thing. I'll start: I'm Loki. I've played, at one time or another, Brad, Magenta and Frank, but my true love is Riff Raff. I wouldn't mind having a go at playing the Crim some time, though. No hurry - I've been doing this show since 1989, and it's only occurred to me today to have a go at that role :) Loki ------------------------------------------------- "I'm afraid that some day I'll lose all this, and I won't have loved it enough." The role I started playing, and played til recently, was the Criminologist (thanks Loki for dragging me in!) At the moment, I'm playing Rocky, and have also played Brad, Janet, Riff, Magenta. At some stage I want to play Columbia and Frank, more to complete the set than any specific desire... Drew http://personals.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo! Personals - New people, new possibilities! Try Yahoo! Drew's idea of her staking a vamp during each monologue is a great one, and would make sure the audience got who she was supposed to be. Danni: as for being interested in Columbia, that was something that kind of came up on the spot at that rehearsal in June. No, Magenta is the role I have coveted for the most amount of time... my interest in Columbia-ness is somewhat more casual. :) As for the question of whether to share the role with Jess or alternate months, I'd prefer the latter. Despite Drew's admirable concern for me, I'm quite up for the challenge of doing the role on my own this time! :) And thank you to Jess for suggesting just that, and of course she should be Trixie. And I'm up for the MX photo shoot... on a Monday or Friday, mostly... -Zilla- _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail is now available on Australian mobile phones. I love playing Majenta and would like to continue to do so on an on off basis with Zilla or others who would like to. I would also like to play Columbia and Frank. Mini the Moucher sounds good to me. Do we need to bring sunglasses and black hats? I am playing Trixie next show and I thought I could at the end of the song turn around and put Fangs in and then be staked by Buffy. Or be killed by a Vampire. If we get our act together for October we could do Cabaret with chairs like Liben Heir in the movie. Any night suits me for a meeting and thanks for all the offers for the photo shoot I will organise that and let people know when. Thanks for Danni and Drew for your support, but I am happy doing Trixie, the skeleton and the dog for this show and I think Zilla is happy doing the whole role (she deserves it).
