The dance sequences look like they were only thrown together and no rehearsal has is even being done for them. Also, the callbacks are awful - the timing is bad, and many of them are far too long - comedy (this style of it at least) needs to be brief to work. Whats happening with the Trannies? Why haven't we got some out in the foyer before everything kicks off. Do we have any? Zilla was handling that, but then she got busy and had to drop out - did anyone step into the role? These are just some of my thoughts about it. i understand it is very, very hard for all of us to get together because of other commitments, but we need to place a priority on this other wise it will go down the tubes in no uncertain terms. Further down the tubes... Pre show needs to be only ten minutes long....any longer it becomes drab and very boring! Even that should be an upper limit. We should aim at 5 minutes, with a little elbow room. Also, we need to look at who is best suited to do certain parts or scenes in the show to give it it's best chance. Certain people need to improve their sharing skills in order for this to happen... we've already lost several potential recruits because they don't see any place for themselves in the cast (and usually accurately). And the whole fun-pantomime-gender-swapping thing seems to go well with the christmas thing. Have there been problems in the past? if not, why change? for me, role swapping at mardi-gras doesn't seem to go. mar5di-gras is about the gay community as a whole not just drag queens. Rocky horror themes as is go really well with mardi gras and its be yourself themes. Again all of the above is just an opinion and I will go along with a group decision. If we have a meeting to decide characters and/or what we are doing, can the meeting be during the day? since I ussually have to spend an hour or over on trains and buses to get to places (and my primary line is the lilydale/belgrave) I really do not want to be travelling at night. And we really should get it all sorted out soon. Loki, I think the reason we have trouble getting people to show up has alot to do with advertising. Also, latley there have been groups of people coming that are heckling meanly, not yelling fun call backs. This can also be quite of putting for an audience and encourage people not to come back. again, just an opinion. I don't think accurate dress is necessary as long as it looks sort of right and is in line with the theme. Tux jacket not necessary just wear a bright coloured shirt and a white vest. I usually take my jacket off anyway because I'm so hot. Rocky is supposed to be a fun thing that we as a group of friends and performers get together every second month to do. I feel anxious everytime emails circulate and feel that as mature adults we should be able to work together. The last rocky was amazing we had a full house and we worked really well together, it seems a shame that this has to be damaged by people knocking each other and putting others down. We need to make a decision about the next performance, but we have to remember that everyone is volunteering their time and does this because they want to. We also all had to start somewhere and a lot of us worked our ways to where we are now. I know that there has been disappointment for new people comming in and wanting cast roles, but there has to be a limit the number of people in roles or everyone will rarely get on stage. I am also letting people know that Cath is understudying me as Madj because she has wanted to do that role ever since she started Rocky well before I did and there are enough Janets if she is Madjing. Danni also has talked about returning and she may jump into the role as well. I am hoping that we can resolve any differences and be a happy group. This is about having fun and I know that the high I feel after a performance like last Rocky is so good that I really look forward to the next and don't look forward to the day where I can not be part of this. Cath also tells me that she met someone in Borders who raved about the last show. Big Sqishes from Jess __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Maybe it would be an idea for now that if new people want to join the cast (where are all these friends everyone keeps talking about) that they have to be a tranny for a set time before they get a role. I know they do that is Sydney and since we now have all roles filled we don't NEED anyone to fill roles. Also there should be a limit to the number of people playing each character. I think two works well so maybe we should stick to that. Quite honestly I'd prefer people be blunt. Now, if I may.. we're still no closer to setting a rehearsal date. Another point, it's poll time. I seriously think we should stay with the original casting decisions and think up something different, like having someone (maybe Frank?) in a Santa Costume or something silly. Something christmas-y, you know? The role swapping thing, while fun to the cast, is something that is a lot less amusing to the audience. People are welcome to their opinions, but I think we should decide NOW whether we do it. I vote for something else. Anyone got the exact date for the next show, by the way? I agree that we should stick to our normal roles , but have a Christmas twist like Frank in a santa suit and reindeers chasing Rocky instead of dogs. The pre show could have a Christmas twist. This had settled down... people who want politics join the Liberals... that way you don't need to even vote, just be bossy and big name yourself. Secondly: I joined inititially over five years ago, with a promise that I would play Madge as soon as that role became available... having sat back and wtched everyone else get to the role over me was very upsetting, but I enjoy the Janet role and can at least participate in something I love... which is why I thought we were doing this. People who are sulking because of not being able to do a specific role need to have all their facts straight before bagging long time cast members over being too selfish to share need to grow up! Both Danni and Jesse are happy for me to understudy Madge, and have both said so too me. Loki... I remember you offering to train me in this role too.... so I hope people do not mind my understudying it. Thirdly: I like the idea of just christmasing the show... maybe a red half slip and bra trimmed with white fur for Janet? Brad with holly or mistletoe... um ... you know.... *blush* Fourth point: Dannii... when do you want to do the interview and the photoes? I volunteer my time and think Jesse should also be part of this.... cast profiles included darling? You I trust to take my pic... aaah... ego.... lol Guys, please remember rocky is supposed to be fun, not about shape, level of talent, or being able to dance in time... or else most of us would not be on stage.... not one of us are Olivier or Fonteyn, or Sarandon or Curry for that matter.... we are more Hinwood, we're having fun... who cares if we stuff up ocassionally.... with the feedback after the last show it is obvious we are so definitely doing something right! And as too vicious call backs... F@#K THEM!!!! It's just jealousy, they do not have the balls to the things we do and this pisses them off.... Anyway... gotta run.... half naked sexy guy cooking me dinner.... mmmmm... half naked sexy guy... At this stage I definitely don't think I could handle more that trannying or perhaps a guest appearance... Thankyou for recognising me tho. I do wish that people could work together tho instead of against each other, the majority of the cast have been around long enough to at least know second hand what it is like to have a cast who are unable to work together is like... Jess...thanks for the offer of the Tux jacket, I will take you up on it :> and will be doing some scouring around op shops in the mean time to try and find appropriate wardrobe :> Danni Join 18 million Eudora users by signing up for a free Eudora Web-Mail account at http://www.eudoramail.com From mwarby@mira.net Tue Nov 26 13:06:55 2002 Date: Tue, 26 Nov 2002 23:06:55 +1100 From: M J Warby mwarby@mira.net Subject: [Rocky]One last time This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_00EA_01C295A0.83BE7BC0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hiya While I am happy to marry Brian onstage on last time on Saturday Dec 7, = I would like to hang up my yellow shorts after that. Radical suggestion:- rather than someone having to volunteer their home as the venue (which most of the time isn't exactly central), how about making it 7pm-ish (while it's still light) in the Flagstaff gardens (across from Flagstaff train station) in the CBD? Enjoy some of this evening weather we've been having. Not likely, but if it does rain, I'm sure we could still gather and hold the meeting in the Medina Grand's foyer (my workplace,189 Queen St). I'll chip in that Wednesday is out for me (due to band rehearsal), but any other night is fine. Adrian "Time is an illusion.
